LIVERMORE, Alameda County, Calif., Oct. 23, 2026 — Two people were reportedly hurt Thursday afternoon, October 22, in a multi-vehicle crash on eastbound I-580 near the First Street onramp in Livermore, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash was first reported around 4:09 p.m. and appeared to involve as many as five or six vehicles, including a white SUV, a black Toyota, a black Audi SUV and a Honda. Dispatch logs noted vehicles scattered across multiple lanes, with one car in the center divider and another resting on the right shoulder. The agency later clarified that only two vehicles were confirmed involved, cautioning that others nearby may have simply been passing motorists.
Debris was reported across all lanes, and the crash blocked the number one lane as well as the second and third lanes at different points. A man in the Audi SUV was reported to have moderate injuries, and medical personnel requested an ambulance for a possible injury involving another vehicle, per emergency dispatch communications relayed to the CHP.
Tow trucks were called to remove the Audi SUV and a small sedan from the roadway, and Freeway Service Patrol was asked to help clear vehicles blocking traffic. The crash caused delays on eastbound I-580 as crews worked to clear the lanes and debris.
The cause of the crash remains under review. We wish those injured a full recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do weather and road conditions affect crash risk?
Wet pavement, glare, debris or sudden slowdowns can all reduce traction and reaction time, making multi-vehicle pileups more likely, especially on busy freeway stretches like I-580.
What should I do right after a car accident?
Move to a safe location if possible, check for injuries, call 911, and exchange information with other drivers. Even if injuries seem minor, it's wise to get checked by a medical provider afterward.
Where do most traffic accidents happen?
Many crashes cluster near on-ramps, merge points and areas with heavy lane changes, where speed differences between vehicles are greatest.
What to Do After a Car Accident in Livermore, CA
If you're involved in a crash on a freeway like I-580, try to get your vehicle out of active traffic lanes if it's drivable and safe to do so. Turn on hazard lights and stay inside the vehicle if you're stopped in a travel lane, since walking near moving traffic adds risk. Call for medical help right away if anyone feels pain, dizziness or has visible injuries, even if symptoms seem mild at first. Once you're safe, document the scene with photos if you're able, and get a copy of the official collision report once it's available. Follow up with a doctor in the days after the crash, since some injuries like whiplash or concussions don't show symptoms immediately.
