LODI, San Joaquin County, Calif., Oct. 10, 2026 — A two-vehicle crash with minor injuries closed lanes at North Devries Road and Peltier Road on Thursday afternoon, October 8. Airbags deployed in both vehicles.
The California Highway Patrol first logged the call as a collision with injuries of unknown severity before updating it to a traffic collision with minor injuries. Debris was reported across all lanes at the intersection, and part of the roadway was later noted as a traffic hazard as crews worked the scene.
Stockton Fire was brought in to assist, per the CHP log. Two tow companies were requested to clear the vehicles, an indication that at least one of them was disabled.
No names, ages, or a cause have been released. The California Highway Patrol has not said which direction of travel each vehicle was headed or what led to the crash. The incident remains under investigation.
We wish the injured a complete and speedy recovery.
When Intersection Crashes Like This Tend to Happen
Collisions at rural and semi-rural intersections usually cluster around certain hours rather than spreading evenly across the day. Mid-afternoon and early evening are common because that's when traffic volume climbs as commuters and farm or delivery traffic mix on two-lane roads that were not built for heavy flow.
Lower light in late afternoon, especially as the sun drops toward the horizon, can make it harder for drivers to judge the speed and distance of cross traffic at a stop-controlled intersection. Fatigue also plays a role later in the workday, when reaction times slow and drivers are more likely to misjudge a gap or run a stop sign.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 2,979 passenger-car occupants were killed in two-vehicle crashes involving a passenger car and a light truck in 2023. Intersections, where a car and a larger vehicle are more likely to meet at an angle or head-on, are a common setting for that kind of mismatch.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does speed change how serious a crash is? Yes. Higher speed means more force at impact and less time for a driver to brake or steer away from a collision, so injuries tend to be more serious as speed increases.
Why is distracted driving a particular problem at intersections? A few seconds looking away from the road is usually enough to miss a stop sign, a changing light, or another vehicle entering the intersection, which is why distraction is a factor in many intersection crashes.
How much do weather and road surface matter? Rain, glare, or debris on the roadway can reduce traction and visibility, making it harder to stop in time or see a vehicle approaching from a cross street.
What should I do right after a car accident? Check for injuries, move to a safe spot if possible, call 911, and exchange information with the other driver. Photograph the scene if you're able, and seek a medical check even if you feel fine, since some injuries aren't immediately obvious.
What to Do After a Car Accident in Lodi, CA
If you're involved in a crash in Lodi, stay as calm as you can and check yourself and any passengers for injuries before doing anything else. Call 911 so officers and medics can respond and document the scene.
Even with minor injuries, get checked by a medical professional soon after. Adrenaline can mask pain from whiplash, concussion, or soft-tissue injury for hours or longer. Keep any paperwork from the scene, including the CHP incident number, in case you need it for insurance or follow-up care.
