What Factors Are Commonly Reviewed in Passing-Related Head-On Crashes?
Passing-related head-on collisions are examined by reviewing lane markings, sight distance, and driver decision-making during overtaking maneuvers. Investigators also assess traffic conditions and whether there was sufficient space and visibility to complete the pass safely.
Large commercial vehicles, such as log trucks, can significantly increase impact severity due to their size and weight. In many cases, reconstruction teams analyze roadway evidence like skid marks and final vehicle positions to determine timing and speed.
Information from witness statements and physical evidence helps establish how the passing attempt unfolded and whether any environmental or traffic factors contributed to the collision.
