Los Angeles, CA (April 29, 2026) – A multi-vehicle crash early Tuesday morning on Interstate 710 near the Del Amo Boulevard exit left one person dead in Los Angeles.
Emergency units were dispatched around 1:01 a.m. to the northbound lanes, where several vehicles were involved in a chain-reaction crash. Authorities said four vehicles, including a white Kia SUV and multiple sedans, were part of the collision. One vehicle went down an embankment, and airbags deployed in several of the cars.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials have not released the person’s name, age, or gender at this time.
All northbound lanes of I-710, along with the Del Amo Boulevard exit, were shut down for several hours as crews worked at the scene. Traffic backed up in the area while debris was cleared and the crash site was examined.
Authorities have not confirmed what caused the crash or whether any contributing factors were involved.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available. We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased.
What Can Lead to Chain-Reaction Crashes on Busy Freeways
Chain-reaction crashes often occur when multiple vehicles travel closely together at high speeds. If one vehicle suddenly slows or stops, others may not have enough time or distance to avoid a collision.
Freeways are especially prone to these incidents due to steady traffic flow and limited space between vehicles. When several cars become involved, impacts can occur in quick succession, increasing the risk of serious damage.
Factors such as reduced visibility, driver reaction time, and roadway conditions can influence how these crashes develop. When a vehicle leaves the roadway, such as going down an embankment, it may indicate a loss of control during the sequence of impacts.
