Madison County, MS (January 19, 2026) – A man was killed Friday night in a two-vehicle collision on US-49 near Petrified Forest Road in Madison County, according to the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
The accident occurred at approximately 8:10 p.m. when a northbound 2007 Toyota Camry, driven by 41-year-old Joey Quarles of Brookhaven, lost control, reportedly due to hydroplaning. The Camry collided with a 2020 Honda CR-V, which was also traveling northbound, before veering off the roadway and striking a tree.
Quarles suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The occupants of the Honda CR-V, 32-year-old driver Shequita Young, passenger Frank Moore, also 32, and a minor child, all from Yazoo City, were not injured.
Emergency responders worked to secure the scene and assess those involved. While no other injuries were reported, the investigation into the crash remains active as authorities review roadway conditions and contributing factors.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Joey Quarles during this difficult time.
