What Factors Are Reviewed in Pedestrian Crosswalk-Related Crashes
Pedestrian crashes near crosswalks involve reviewing roadway design, visibility, and pedestrian movement at the time of the incident. Investigators typically examine whether crosswalks were available nearby, where the pedestrian entered the roadway, and how traffic was flowing at the time of the collision.
Lighting conditions, driver speed, and sight distance can also affect how quickly a driver reacts to a pedestrian entering the road. In some cases, witness statements and vehicle positioning help clarify the sequence of events. These details help better understand how and why pedestrian crashes occur in both marked and unmarked crossing areas.
