Sweetwater, FL (August 25, 2026) – A woman was injured on Monday night, August 24, when a driver collided with her vehicle as she turned left at Southwest 107th Avenue and Southwest Fourth Street, according to Sweetwater police. Ahmmad Kayyali, of Little Havana, had been driving south on 107th Avenue when the crash happened around 9 p.m.

Witnesses said Kayyali got out of his vehicle after the crash and asked a bystander to order him a rideshare so he could leave. Police requested assistance from the Miami Police Department and located him shortly thereafter. He was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital to be checked out before being charged with leaving the scene of a crash and driving with a suspended license.

We hope the injured woman has a full recovery.

Why Do Some Drivers Attempt to Leave a Crash Using a Rideshare?

A driver looking to leave a crash scene quickly may turn to whatever transportation is readily available, and a rideshare app offers a fast, discreet way to summon a car without needing a ride from someone who witnessed what happened. This can make it appear, at least briefly, like an easy way to avoid immediate consequences.

This approach still leaves a trail for investigators, since rideshare companies maintain trip records that can confirm pickup times and locations. Witnesses who observe the request, as happened here, can also provide direct testimony connecting a suspect to the scene.

Fleeing in this way doesn’t erase evidence left behind at the crash itself, including the suspect’s own vehicle, which investigators can use to identify a driver even before locating them in person. Combined with eyewitness accounts, this typically narrows down a search quickly.
