Why Head-On Crashes Often Result in Severe Injuries
Head-on crashes are among the most dangerous types of roadway collisions because the force from both vehicles combines at the moment of impact. Even at moderate speeds, these crashes can cause catastrophic injuries to drivers and passengers.
When a vehicle crosses into oncoming traffic, motorists traveling the opposite direction often have very little time to react or avoid contact. Serious injuries are especially common when occupants become trapped inside heavily damaged vehicles.
Safety experts encourage drivers to remain alert for signs of drifting or erratic driving and to avoid distractions behind the wheel. Using seat belts and maintaining safe speeds can also help reduce injury severity during major roadway collisions.
