Henry County, VA (July 1, 2026) – One man was hurt in a two-vehicle collision on Tuesday night on Greensboro Road near Martinsville Speedway in Henry County. Emergency units were called to the roadway after the vehicles collided in front of the Ridgeway Volunteer Fire Department.
The wreck involved a passenger car and a Jeep, both of which sustained front-end damage. One of the vehicles came to rest in the median. A man involved in the collision suffered an apparent arm injury and received treatment at the scene before being taken to a hospital.
The collision also caused automotive fluids to leak onto the roadway, prompting crews to conduct a hazardous materials cleanup to prevent additional hazards for passing motorists. The identities of those involved have not been released.
Investigators continue to examine what led to the accident. We wish the injured man a full and speedy recovery.
Why Hazardous Materials Cleanup Is Often Needed After Vehicle Collisions
After a vehicle collision, leaking fluids such as fuel, motor oil, coolant, and transmission fluid can create slippery driving conditions and pose environmental concerns. Cleanup crews use absorbent materials and specialized equipment to contain and remove these substances before traffic fully resumes.
This work helps reduce the risk of secondary collisions caused by slick pavement. In addition to clearing damaged vehicles, crews inspect the roadway for debris that could endanger other drivers. Depending on the amount of spilt fluid and the extent of vehicle damage, the cleanup process can take longer than the investigation itself, especially when multiple vehicles are involved or traffic must be diverted around the affected portion of the roadway.
