Boone, IA (August 18, 2026) – A 45-year-old man was killed, and two children were injured in a head-on collision Sunday night on Story St in Boone.
The collision happened shortly before 9:30 p.m. Sunday, August 16, near the 1500 block of S Story St. According to an Iowa State Patrol report, Joshua Burns was driving a Jeep Renegade southbound when it left the curb, entered a ditch, and returned to the roadway.
The Jeep then struck a Ford Edge head-on. Burns died at the scene from his injuries, according to the crash report.
A 3-year-old child riding in the Ford was critically hurt and flown to an area hospital. A 7-month-old passenger also sustained injuries and was taken by ground ambulance to a nearby hospital.
The investigation remains underway as officials work to determine the circumstances that led to the wreck. Our deepest condolences go to the family and loved ones of the man who died.
