New Cassel, NY (July 25, 2026) – A 74-year-old man was killed after a house fire on Arlington Street in New Cassel on Friday morning, July 24. The fire was reported around 7:30 a.m.
According to officials, dozens of firefighters responded to the home after reports that a man was trapped on the second floor. First responders attempted to reach him, but worsening fire conditions forced crews to leave the area. The man was later pronounced dead. His identity has not been released.
No other injuries were reported, and three other adults who lived in the home are receiving assistance from the Red Cross. Officials said the home was a rental property for adults with special needs. The fire is not believed to be suspicious, but the cause remains under investigation.
