San Diego, CA (July 27, 2026) – A 60-year-old man died after being struck by a vehicle early on Saturday morning, July 25, in the Mira Mesa neighborhood of San Diego.

According to the San Diego Police Department, the crash occurred around 4 a.m. in the 10550 block of Camino Ruiz. Investigators said the man was crossing the roadway from west to east outside of a marked crosswalk when he was struck by a southbound 2008 Honda Accord.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities said impairment was not believed to be a factor in the collision, and no additional information about the driver has been released. The fatal crash remains under investigation. The police are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact Crime Stoppers.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the victim’s family, friends, and everyone affected by this tragic loss.

Why May Mid-Block Pedestrian Crossings Be Dangerous?

Pedestrian crashes that occur away from marked intersections can present significant risks because drivers may be less likely to anticipate someone crossing the roadway. Reduced visibility during overnight and early morning hours can further limit the time available for motorists to react.

Following a fatal pedestrian collision, investigators typically examine the scene for physical evidence, vehicle damage, roadway lighting, witness statements, and any available surveillance or dash camera footage. These details help establish the sequence of events and determine whether any contributing factors played a role.

Regardless of where a collision occurs, investigators carefully review all available evidence before reaching conclusions about how the incident happened. Their findings can help inform future roadway safety efforts and provide answers to those affected.
