Painesville Township, OH (June 21, 2026) – A man was killed, and a state trooper was injured after a head-on crash on Friday night, June 19, on Route 2 near State Route 44 in Painesville Township.
The crash happened around 8:51 p.m. when a 2011 Toyota Scion traveling east in the westbound lanes struck a patrol vehicle head-on. The driver of the Scion was identified as 61-year-old Jerry Alberico of Mentor and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Scion caught fire following the collision.
The trooper involved in the crash suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to TriPoint Medical Center in Concord Township for treatment. Troopers are still reviewing the circumstances that led to the crash.
