Lincoln, NE (July 1, 2026) – A 37-year-old man was rescued after a trench collapse at a construction site in east Lincoln on Tuesday morning, June 30. Emergency units were called to the neighborhood near Linwood Lane and Northern Sky Road at about 10:30 a.m., where the worker had been buried up to his neck beneath loose dirt.
Crews carefully removed soil while keeping the man’s airway clear and providing intravenous treatment. By about 11:35 a.m., he had been freed to his waist, and a vacuum truck was brought in to help remove additional dirt from the roughly 15-foot-deep trench.
The person was fully removed from the excavation at approximately 11:59 a.m. Coworkers had attempted to free him before emergency personnel arrived. The trench was reportedly dug within another trench, raising concerns about further cave-ins as rescue continued.
The cause of the trench collapse is still being examined as more information becomes available.
