Frequently Asked Questions
What factors make a crash more likely to be fatal?
Higher speeds, loss of vehicle control, and head-on or cross-median impacts tend to raise the chances of serious or fatal injury, since they expose occupants to greater force than lower-speed or same-direction collisions.
How does speed affect crash survivability?
Even modest increases in speed reduce the time a driver has to react and increase the force of impact, which can turn a survivable crash into a fatal one.
Why does seat belt use matter so much?
Seat belts keep occupants from being thrown within or out of the vehicle during a crash, which lowers the risk of fatal head, chest, and internal injuries.
What should families do after a fatal crash?
Families can contact the investigating agency for updates on the case, request a copy of the official crash report once it's available, and reach out to local victim services for support.
