Why Motorcycle Riders Often Suffer Serious Injuries in Traffic Crashes
Motorcyclists are more exposed to direct impact during crashes because motorcycles do not provide the same structural protection as passenger vehicles. Injuries to the legs and lower body are especially common in side-impact and intersection-related collisions.
Investigators reviewing motorcycle crashes often examine vehicle movements, lane positioning, and visibility at the time of impact. Road conditions, traffic flow, and driver reaction times may also help explain how the collision occurred.
Even crashes at moderate speeds can lead to serious injuries for riders due to the limited protection available during impact. Medical evaluations and vehicle damage assessments are commonly used to determine the severity of injuries and reconstruct the sequence of events.
