Frequently Asked Questions
What steps should drivers take after a two-vehicle crash?
Move to a safe location if possible, call 911, and exchange information with the other driver. Even if injuries seem minor, it's wise to be checked by a medical provider, since some injuries (like whiplash or internal bruising) aren't obvious right away.
What injuries are most common in crashes like this one?
Common injuries include whiplash, concussions, broken bones, and bruising or lacerations from impact with the vehicle's interior. Seatbelts and airbags reduce the severity of these injuries but don't always prevent them.
What typically causes two-vehicle crashes at intersections?
Common factors include failure to yield, distracted driving, misjudging another vehicle's speed, and turning movements. Investigators generally review traffic signals, driver statements, and vehicle positions to determine what happened.
Does speed affect how serious a crash is?
Yes. Higher speeds mean less time to react and more force at impact, which tends to increase the severity of injuries and vehicle damage even in a two-vehicle collision.
What to Do After a Car Accident in Manhattan, Kansas
If you're involved in a car accident in Manhattan, prioritize safety first: check for injuries, move out of traffic if you're able, and call 911 right away. Stay at the scene until police arrive and give them an accurate account of what you observed. Take photos of the vehicles, the road, and any visible injuries if you're able to do so safely.
Even if you feel fine, consider a prompt medical evaluation. Adrenaline can mask pain, and some injuries take hours or days to show symptoms. Keep records of any treatment, and follow up with your doctor if symptoms persist. Reporting the crash to your insurance company promptly also helps keep the process moving smoothly.
