Frequently Asked Questions
What should a pedestrian do after being hit by a car?
Call 911 right away, stay as still as possible until paramedics arrive, and seek a medical evaluation even if injuries seem minor, since some symptoms appear later.
Who has the right of way at a crosswalk?
Pedestrians in a marked or unmarked crosswalk generally have the right of way, but drivers and pedestrians alike are expected to use caution, and crossing outside a crosswalk can affect how fault is determined.
How can drivers reduce the risk of hitting a pedestrian?
Slowing down near intersections, scanning both sides of the road before proceeding, and staying off phones while driving all help drivers spot people crossing in time to stop.
What injuries are most common in pedestrian accidents?
Pedestrians struck by vehicles frequently suffer head trauma, broken bones, and internal injuries, since they have little protection compared to someone inside a car.
