Frequently Asked Questions
Does driver fatigue play a role in truck crashes?
It can. Commercial drivers often cover long stretches with limited rest, and fatigue is a recognized factor in large-truck crashes nationwide, though investigators determine its role case by case.
What should I do if I'm in a crash involving a commercial truck?
Call 911, stay clear of traffic lanes if possible, and seek medical evaluation even if injuries seem minor. Get the names of responding agencies and, if you're able, note the truck's company markings.
Why do trucks take so much longer to stop than cars?
A loaded semi can weigh tens of thousands of pounds more than a passenger vehicle, so it needs much more distance to slow down or stop, especially at highway speed.
What makes crashes with large trucks more dangerous than typical car accidents?
The size and weight gap between a semi and a passenger vehicle means the smaller vehicle absorbs most of the impact, which often leads to more severe injuries.
What to Do After a Semi-Truck Crash in Marietta, Oklahoma
Anyone involved in a crash with a commercial truck in Marietta should get checked by a medical provider as soon as possible, since some injuries aren't obvious right away. Ask for a copy of the official crash report once it's available, and hold onto any paperwork from the scene, including contact information for other drivers and responding officers. If you're a witness, consider notifying the Oklahoma Highway Patrol or the Love County Sheriff's Office with anything you observed. Give yourself time to process what happened, and lean on family or friends for support in the days that follow.
