Frequently Asked Questions
What makes a vehicle roll over?
A rollover usually happens when a vehicle leaves the roadway, and its tires catch on soft ground, a curb, or an uneven surface like a field approach, causing it to tip rather than slide.
What can drivers do to guard against a rollover?
Keeping speed appropriate for the road, staying alert near shoulders and field entrances, and correcting a drift gently rather than jerking the wheel can all help a vehicle stay upright if it leaves the pavement.
What injuries typically result from a rollover crash?
Occupants can suffer head, neck, and spinal injuries, along with broken bones, especially if they are thrown against the roof or doors during the roll. Wearing a seat belt lowers that risk.
Do certain roads see more rollovers than others?
Rural roads with narrow shoulders, loose gravel, or steep drop-offs along the edge tend to see more rollovers, since there is less room to recover once a vehicle drifts off the pavement.
