Mead, WA (January 9, 2026) – A tragic collision involving a school bus claimed the life of a pedestrian on Monday evening in Mead, according to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office. The incident occurred around 5:10 p.m. at the intersection of West Hastings Rd and West Bellwood Dr.

Authorities say 20-year-old Eva Allen was in a crosswalk when she was struck by a Mead School District bus. Emergency responders rushed Allen to Sacred Heart Medical Center, but she later died from her injuries.

On Wednesday, the Spokane County Medical Examiner confirmed Allen’s identity and stated the cause of death was blunt-force injuries. The death has been officially ruled an accident.

An investigation by the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office is ongoing. It is not yet clear what factors contributed to the incident, and no additional injuries were reported.
