How Do Urban Intersections Contribute to Multi-Injury Crashes?
Urban intersections, particularly in busy areas like Midtown, can create complex driving environments where multiple factors increase the likelihood of serious crashes. High traffic volumes, frequent stops, pedestrian activity, and multiple turning lanes all require drivers to remain highly attentive.
When a collision occurs in these settings, it often involves multiple occupants across more than one vehicle, increasing the chance of several injuries. The presence of children as passengers can add another layer of concern, as they are more vulnerable to the forces involved in a crash.
Additionally, intersections are common sites for side-impact collisions, which can lead to more severe outcomes depending on the speed and angle of impact. Careful driving, adherence to traffic signals, and awareness of surrounding vehicles are essential to reducing risks in these high-traffic areas.
