MENIFEE, Riverside County, Calif., Oct. 15, 2026 — One person was taken to a hospital after a two-vehicle crash on Wednesday afternoon, October 14, at Briggs Road and Matthews Road in Menifee.
The crash involved a white Honda CR-V and a red pickup truck, the California Highway Patrol said. Part of the Honda was reportedly left blocking traffic lanes at the intersection following the collision.
Menifee police asked for an estimated arrival time on the scene, and the CHP confirmed it was handling the call and that one person was being transported to a hospital. The extent of that person's injuries has not been released.
A tow truck was requested to remove at least one of the vehicles from the roadway. No other injuries were reported, and it is not known whether any citations have been issued.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Officials have not said which vehicle, if either, was found to be at fault.
Our thoughts are with those who were injured, and we wish them a full recovery.
What the Numbers Show About Crashes Involving Trucks and Smaller Vehicles
According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, 17,008 motor-vehicle crash deaths occurred outside passenger vehicles in crashes involving passenger vehicles in 2023. That figure includes motorcyclists, pedestrians, and occupants of other vehicle types, a reminder that collisions between mismatched vehicles, such as a passenger car and a pickup truck, carry outcomes that depend heavily on size and weight differences.
Pickup trucks and SUVs sit higher off the ground and weigh more than sedans and compact crossovers. When the two meet at an intersection, the smaller vehicle's occupants usually absorb more of the force. That imbalance is a major reason crash investigators look closely at vehicle type and angle of impact when reconstructing how a collision occurred.
Intersection crashes like this one make up a large share of two-vehicle collisions nationally. Many happen during turns or when one driver misjudges the right of way, which is why investigators typically examine signal timing, sightlines, and vehicle positioning before drawing conclusions about fault.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where do most traffic accidents happen?
A large share of crashes occur at or near intersections, where turning movements and crossing traffic create more opportunities for drivers to misjudge gaps or right of way.
What are the most common causes of car accidents?
Distraction, speeding, failure to yield, and following too closely are among the most frequently cited factors in police crash reports.
What injuries are most common in car accidents?
Neck and back strain, broken bones, and head injuries are common in vehicle collisions, particularly in crashes involving a larger vehicle striking a smaller one.
What to Do After a Car Accident in Menifee, CA
Anyone involved in a crash should move to a safe area if possible and call 911 to report injuries or blocked traffic lanes. Even if pain or soreness isn't immediately obvious, it's worth getting checked by a medical provider soon after, since some injuries don't show symptoms right away.
Exchange information with the other driver and take photos of the vehicles, the intersection, and any visible damage if it's safe to do so. Request a copy of the CHP or local police report once it's filed, and keep records of any medical visits or vehicle repairs that follow.
