MERKEL, Taylor County, Texas, Sept. 28, 2026 — One person suffered serious injuries in a house fire on Saturday afternoon, September 26, in Merkel, according to the Merkel Volunteer Fire Department. The blaze broke out in the 1300 block of North 13th Street.
Crews were dispatched at about 2:20 p.m. and arrived to find heavy smoke coming from a single-family home. All occupants had already gotten out of the house, but one person had reportedly been hurt.
Taylor County EMS took that person to Hendrick Medical Center. Officials have not released the person's name, age, or the extent of the injuries.
