What Can Increase Crash Risk at Signalized Intersections?
Busy approaches near Northwest 199th Street and Northwest 7th Avenue can slow rapidly following crashes, especially during early morning travel when visibility and traffic patterns may vary. Signal-controlled intersections depend on timing and coordination between multiple directions of travel.
When vehicles move through intersections at the same time, turning paths and straight-through traffic can cross. This can lead to severe impacts, particularly when larger vehicles like buses are involved.
Traffic signals are designed to manage flow, but driver awareness and timing remain key factors. Clear visibility, attention to signals, and controlled speeds can help reduce the likelihood of intersection-related collisions.
