MIDLAND, Midland County, Texas, Oct. 1, 2026 — A Midland woman died Wednesday evening, September 30, following a two-vehicle crash on Front Street, according to Midland police.

Officers responded about 6:35 p.m. to a crash near Front Street and Fairgrounds Road, the Midland Police Department said in a news release. The crash happened just west of that intersection and involved a 2005 Honda Accord and a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Investigators determined the Jeep was headed west in the inside lane of Front Street when the Honda pulled out of a private driveway in front of it. The Jeep struck the driver's side of the Honda. The Honda's driver, identified by police as 22-year-old Anna Rubio Galindo, died of her injuries.

Police said her family has been notified. The crash remains under investigation, and MPD has not released further details on potential contributing factors.

Our condolences go out to the family and friends of the deceased.

Who Faces the Greatest Danger When a Vehicle Pulls Into Traffic

Crashes that start when a car leaves a driveway or side street and crosses into a travel lane put the pulling-out vehicle's occupants at the most risk, not the driver who had the right of way. The vehicle entering traffic is typically moving slowly and gets struck broadside, where there's less structure to absorb a hit compared to the front or rear of a car.

Side-impact crashes are especially dangerous for the driver sitting on the struck side, since the door and window area offer a shorter crush zone than a hood or trunk. Younger drivers and those unfamiliar with a roadway's traffic speed are overrepresented in these pull-out collisions, often misjudging the gap needed to merge safely.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, one person was killed every 13 minutes in traffic crashes in 2023. Intersection and driveway-entry crashes make up a steady share of that toll because they combine high closing speeds with little warning time for either driver.

Frequently Asked Questions

What factors make a crash more likely to be fatal?

Speed differences between vehicles, the angle of impact, and which part of a vehicle is struck all play a major role. Side-impact crashes, like one vehicle pulling into another's path, tend to carry higher injury risk than head-on or rear-end collisions at similar speeds.

How does speed affect whether someone survives a crash?

Even modest increases in speed raise the energy involved in a collision substantially. A vehicle struck at 40 mph transfers far more force than one struck at 25 mph, which is why crashes on higher-speed roads tend to produce more serious injuries.

Why does seat belt use matter so much in these crashes?

A seat belt keeps an occupant positioned so that a vehicle's structure and airbags can do their job. Without one, a person is more likely to be thrown into the door, window, or out of the vehicle entirely during a side-impact hit.

What should a family do after a fatal crash?

Families can request the official police report once it's finalized and ask the investigating agency about next steps. Many also find it helpful to speak with their insurance company early and keep a record of any communications related to the crash.

What to Do After a Fatal Crash in Midland, TX

If you witness a crash or are involved in one, call 911 right away and stay back from traffic until help arrives. Anyone involved, even if they feel uninjured, should still be checked by a medical provider, since some injuries from a side-impact collision aren't immediately obvious.
