Bakersfield, CA (June 29, 2026) – A two-vehicle crash involving a semi-truck left at least one person with minor injuries on Saturday evening, June 27, on State Route 58 eastbound near State Route 223 east of Bakersfield, according to officials.
The crash involved a black Peterbilt semi-truck pulling a white 53-foot trailer and a black sedan. The official information indicated that the sedan rear-ended the semi-truck. The sedan sustained major front-end damage, its airbags deployed, and the vehicle became disabled, requiring a tow.
The semi-truck came to rest on the right shoulder, and no lanes were reported blocked after responders arrived. The incident was later updated to reflect minor injuries. No additional information about those involved has been released.
We wish those involved a swift recovery.
Why Rear-End Crashes With Semi-Trucks Can Be Severe
Rear-end crashes involving semi-trucks result in significant damage to passenger vehicles because of the size and weight difference between the vehicles. Even when the truck is moving slowly or stopped, the force of the impact can cause extensive front-end damage and trigger airbag deployment.
Following this type of collision, emergency responders assess those involved for injuries, secure damaged vehicles, and clear any roadway hazards. Investigators may also examine braking, vehicle spacing, visibility, and road conditions to better understand what led to the crash. These findings help document the incident and may contribute to future roadway safety efforts.
