Frequently Asked Questions
Why do motorcycle crashes tend to cause more serious injuries than other crashes?
A motorcycle offers no frame or airbags to absorb impact, so riders can be thrown from the bike and strike the pavement or another vehicle directly.
How do left-turning or turning vehicles cause motorcycle collisions like this one?
A driver turning across or into a road may misjudge a motorcycle's speed or distance, or simply not see it in time, putting the two vehicles on a collision path at the intersection.
What can drivers do to spot motorcycles at intersections?
Checking twice before turning, looking specifically for motorcycles (which present a smaller profile than cars), and waiting for a clear gap can help drivers avoid pulling into a bike's path.
What should a rider or witness do after a motorcycle crash?
Call 911 right away, avoid moving anyone who may be seriously hurt unless there's immediate danger, and wait for police to arrive and document the scene.
