Frequently Asked Questions
Does speed make a crash like this worse?
Yes. Higher speeds give drivers less time to react and increase the force of impact when vehicles collide, which tends to raise the likelihood and severity of injury.
Why is distracted driving a particular risk in multi-vehicle crashes?
When several vehicles are traveling close together, a driver who looks away even briefly may not see traffic slowing or stopping ahead in time to avoid a chain-reaction collision.
What to Do After a Multi-Vehicle Crash in Monticello, Minnesota
Getting checked out by a doctor is worth doing even if you feel fine at the scene, since adrenaline can mask pain from whiplash or soft-tissue injuries for hours or days. Take photos of all vehicles involved if you're able, and get contact and insurance information from every driver, not just the one nearest you. Keep a copy of the official crash report once it's available, since multi-vehicle collisions often involve more than one insurance claim. If you're shaken up afterward, give yourself time; recovering from a crash involving several vehicles can take longer, physically and otherwise, than a simple two-car fender bender.
