Why Moped Crashes at Rural Intersections Can Be Fatal
Moped crashes at rural intersections can be especially dangerous because riders have little protection. A helmet, clothing, and the moped frame offer far less protection than a car or truck.
Rural crossings may also have higher speeds, fewer traffic controls, or longer sight distances that can be affected by hills, crops, trees, or road angles. Drivers and riders may have only seconds to react when they enter the same intersection.
After a fatal roadway accident, investigators may review vehicle direction, visibility, speed, road markings, and damage patterns. They may also use autopsy and toxicology findings to complete the record before releasing more details.
