MORENO VALLEY, Riverside County, Calif., Oct. 24, 2026 — Three people were hurt on Thursday night, October 22, in a chain-reaction crash involving seven vehicles on eastbound SR-60 near Moreno Beach Drive, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The California Highway Patrol said the crash was first reported as blocking all eastbound lanes near the Moreno Beach Drive exit. A caller told dispatchers it involved two separate collisions, each reportedly involving about 6 vehicles, with wreckage spread across the center divider and middle lanes. One vehicle reportedly went down an embankment on the right shoulder.
Investigators said a gray Nissan sedan and a white Cadillac were among the vehicles involved in one section of the wreck, with that Cadillac left partly off the roadway down an embankment. An off-duty EMT who stopped to help reported one driver suffered a chest injury, another had leg injuries, and a third had minor facial injuries and bleeding from the lower leg. Fire crews later told responders that all three patients were taken to Riverside University Health System Medical Center with what were described as minor injuries.
Dispatch logs also noted a report of possible debris from a motorcycle near the scene, though the caller said she had not actually seen a motorcycle or bicycle involved. That detail remains unconfirmed. A separate white Honda reportedly went off the right shoulder near an embankment as well, though it was not immediately clear if that vehicle was tied to either of the two reported collision clusters.
Crews requested tow services for multiple vehicles, and at least one car, a black Nissan Sentra, was confirmed towed from the scene. The extent of lane closures and the duration of traffic disruption were not released. The California Highway Patrol has not said what caused the crash, and the investigation remains active.
We hope everyone who was hurt makes a full and speedy recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are crashes that happen right after an initial wreck common?
Yes. When a crash blocks lanes or sends vehicles into unexpected positions, drivers approaching at normal speed often don't have time to react, which can trigger a second pile-up near the first.
What makes a multi-vehicle crash hard for investigators to piece together?
With several vehicles and drivers involved, officers have to sort out the order of impacts, which vehicle struck which, and whether more than one separate collision happened in the same area, as appears to be the case here.
What typically causes a pile-up involving this many vehicles?
Common factors include sudden braking, reduced visibility, speed differences between vehicles, and one vehicle losing control and blocking lanes before others can slow down. No cause has been confirmed in this case.
What to Do After a Multi-Vehicle Crash in Moreno Valley, CA
If you're involved in a crash with several other vehicles, try to stay inside your car unless it's unsafe, since standing in or near traffic lanes carries its own risk. Turn on hazard lights if your vehicle can still move safely out of traffic. Call 911 even if your injuries seem minor, since adrenaline can mask pain from impacts like whiplash or internal injury. Get checked by a medical provider as soon as possible, and keep records of any treatment. If you're able, note what you saw and heard, since multi-vehicle crashes often involve conflicting accounts of how each impact happened.
