MORGAN HILL, Santa Clara County, Calif., Oct. 25, 2026 — Four vehicles collided before dawn Saturday, October 24, on US-101 North near Coyote Creek Golf Drive in Morgan Hill, according to the California Highway Patrol. At least one person was taken to a hospital after reportedly running from the scene into traffic, the agency said.
The CHP said a pickup truck struck a gray Honda Civic, a black Honda and a silver Chevrolet in what callers described as a ramming. A dispatch log shows the pickup came to rest lodged against the other vehicles. Occupants were reported in the vehicles, and the crash blocked at least one lane shortly before 5 a.m.
One person was struck in the roadway after reportedly leaving a vehicle to run from the scene and was taken to a hospital before responders arrived, per radio traffic. An ambulance was requested for a report of a medical event among those involved.
Authorities closed all northbound lanes near the crash site for roughly 40 minutes while crews worked the scene, then reopened them in stages. Tow companies were called to clear the vehicles, and the backup caused a secondary report of a stalled driver stuck in traffic approaching the wreck.
The circumstances of the crash remain under investigation. We wish the injured a complete recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are secondary crashes common after an initial wreck?
Yes. Stopped or slowed traffic behind a crash creates a hazard of its own, which is why responders often report additional vehicles or drivers caught in the backup before lanes reopen.
What makes multi-vehicle crashes hard to investigate?
Investigators have to establish the order of impacts, which vehicle struck which, and whether any driver's actions were intentional or the result of a medical issue, mechanical failure, or road condition. That can take time and often relies on witness accounts and vehicle data.
What causes chain-reaction pile-ups like this one?
They typically start with one vehicle striking another, often due to sudden braking, a lane change, or in rarer cases a driver losing control or behaving erratically, and the impact or resulting obstruction then draws in additional cars before traffic can clear.
What to Do After a Multi-Vehicle Crash in Morgan Hill, CA
If you're involved in a pileup, try to stay inside your vehicle unless it's unsafe to do so, especially on a highway shoulder where traffic is still moving. Turn on hazard lights and call 911 to report injuries and the number of vehicles involved. Even if you feel fine, a medical check is worth getting, since impacts from multiple directions can cause injuries that aren't immediately obvious. Get contact information from other drivers and witnesses when it's safe, and request a copy of the official report once it's available for insurance purposes.
