Monterey County, CA (June 24, 2026) – A minor-injury accident was reported on Tuesday morning, June 24, on southbound Highway 101 near the Echo Valley Road exit. The crash was first logged at 10:23 a.m. near mile marker 98.7.
Initial reports said vehicles were on the right shoulder, and fire crews were sent after fluids were reported on the roadway. A later update said there were no fluids in the road.
One of the vehicles was later described as a black Subaru. Both vehicles were on the right shoulder by 10:29 a.m., and two tow trucks were requested.
The wreck remains under review as investigators gather more information. We hope anyone injured receives proper care and recovers steadily.
Why Shoulder Crashes Still Need Careful Attention
Crashes that end on the shoulder may seem less disruptive than those that block travel lanes, but they can still pose risks. Drivers passing by may suddenly slow, drift, or become distracted by damaged vehicles along the road.
When fluids are first reported, crews may need to check the pavement before traffic resumes normal flow nearby. Fuel, oil, or coolant can make a road slick, especially near ramps or curves. Even when no spill is later found, the check can help prevent added danger.
Tow trucks are often needed when vehicles cannot be driven away safely. Early reports may focus on vehicle position, possible hazards, and whether injuries were reported. Later updates may explain how the vehicles came together and whether road design or traffic flow contributed to it.
