What Makes Motorcycle Crashes Involving Large Trucks Especially Serious?
Motorcycles provide riders with far less physical protection than passenger vehicles, while pickup trucks have substantially greater size and weight. A rider can suffer serious injuries when struck by a larger vehicle or trapped beneath it. The point of impact, vehicle speed, roadway conditions, and the rider’s position can affect the severity of the outcome.
Emergency crews may need specialized equipment when a rider becomes trapped beneath a vehicle. Medical teams can evaluate injuries that may involve the head, spine, chest, or limbs. Vehicle damage, roadway evidence, photographs, and witness accounts can also help document how the collision occurred and where the vehicles were positioned.
