What Can Cause Serious Injuries in Motorcycle Crashes?
Motorcycle crashes can result in severe injuries because riders have less physical protection than people inside enclosed vehicles. Fractures, head injuries, and road rash are among the injuries that can occur when a rider is thrown from a motorcycle or strikes another vehicle or roadway surface.
Traffic conditions, vehicle movements, roadway design, visibility, and rider positioning can all affect how a motorcycle crash unfolds. Investigators may review vehicle damage, roadway markings, witness accounts, and available video to better understand the sequence of events. Medical evaluations can also help document the extent of injuries following a serious collision.
