Route 2 westbound was closed between exits 30 and 26 while responders worked at the scene and investigators reviewed the crash. The highway reopened around 2:22 a.m. Friday.
The crash remains under investigation by Connecticut State Police. We hope the injured rider receives strong care and support during recovery.
Why Motorcycle Crashes Often Require Trauma Response
Motorcycle crashes can cause severe injuries because riders have little protection during contact with a vehicle or the roadway. A rider may suffer head, chest, spine, limb, or internal injuries after being thrown from the motorcycle or struck during the collision.
When a medical helicopter is requested, emergency crews may be concerned about the severity of trauma or the need for faster access to advanced care. Highway closures also give crews room to treat the patient, land the helicopter, document the scene, and clear damaged vehicles. Investigators may review vehicle positions, road markings, lighting, speed, and witness statements to understand how the crash happened.
