Riverside, CA (September 9, 2026) – A motorcyclist was hurt after a motorcycle and SUV collided on eastbound State Route 91 near Arlington Avenue on Tuesday morning. The crash occurred around 7:35 a.m.
The motorcycle went down, and the rider ended up near the center divider. The rider was later found on the roadside, and the motorcycle was blocking the HOV lane. A person in a black Hyundai Santa Fe reported the crash and could not safely exit the vehicle.
Emergency units responded as the HOV lane was blocked. A tow truck was requested to move the motorcycle, and crews temporarily stopped traffic while they cleared the roadway. Additional details about the rider’s injuries were not immediately available.
Investigators are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. We hope the injured rider makes a full recovery.
What Should Motorcyclists Do After a Crash?
Motorcycle crashes can leave riders exposed to additional hazards from passing traffic. When physically possible and safe, moving away from active travel lanes can reduce the risk of being struck by another vehicle.
Motorcyclists should use protective riding gear, including a properly fitted helmet, gloves, durable clothing, and appropriate footwear. Visibility also matters, especially in heavy traffic or low light.
Drivers sharing the road with motorcycles should maintain an adequate following distance and check blind spots before changing lanes. Motorcycles can be smaller and harder to notice than passenger vehicles, making careful scanning especially important.
After a collision, motorists should avoid entering active lanes unless necessary. Warning devices and hazard lights can help alert approaching drivers when used safely.
