Motorcycle Safety on California Freeways
Motorcyclists face increased risks on busy freeways because they are smaller and harder for other drivers to see. Lane changes, merging traffic, sudden slowdowns, and vehicles entering a rider’s path can create dangerous conditions.
Drivers should check mirrors and blind spots before changing lanes and allow motorcycles enough space to travel safely. Motorcyclists can also improve visibility by using headlights, reflective equipment, and appropriate lane positioning.
Speed is another major factor in freeway safety. Maintaining a safe speed gives drivers and riders more time to react when traffic changes unexpectedly. Wearing a properly fitted helmet and protective riding gear can also reduce the severity of injuries during a fall or collision.
