Johnston, RI (June 8, 2026) – A 38-year-old man died on Saturday afternoon, June 6, after his motorcycle collided with a pickup truck towing a flatbed trailer on Hartford Avenue near the Oak Swamp Reservoir.
The accident happened as the pickup truck was making a left turn, according to the initial report. The motorcyclist hit the truck during that turn.
The rider was brought to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His name was not released in the first report.
The pickup truck driver remained at the scene and was cooperating with officials. No other injuries were reported.
Investigators continue to review the wreck and the movements that led up to it. We extend our sincere condolences to the motorcyclist’s family and loved ones.
Trailer Turns Can Add Risk in Motorcycle Collisions
Left-turn collisions involving motorcycles can be especially dangerous because riders have less protection than people inside larger vehicles. A turning pickup truck or trailer may also take up more space than a standard car, making the contact point more severe.
Motorcyclists may be harder to see in traffic because of their smaller size. Drivers turning across a roadway may need extra time to judge distance and speed before completing the turn.
These cases may involve a close review of travel direction, turn timing, sight lines, and the positions of each vehicle before contact. Trailer length, lane width, and nearby curves may also matter. Even when a rider reaches a hospital, injuries from a motorcycle collision can remain life-threatening because the body absorbs much of the force.
