What Should Motorcyclists Know About U-Turn Dangers?
U-turns can create serious hazards when a driver crosses multiple lanes or enters the path of approaching traffic. Before making such a maneuver, drivers should check mirrors and blind spots and make sure there is enough space to complete the turn safely.
Motorcycles can be harder to see because of their smaller size and narrower profile. Drivers should actively look for motorcycles before turning, changing lanes, or crossing traffic. Riders can improve visibility by using headlights, wearing reflective gear, and maintaining a safe position within their lane.
Speed also affects stopping distance. A motorcycle traveling toward a vehicle that suddenly changes direction may have very little time to avoid contact. Leaving adequate space and carefully checking for approaching traffic can reduce the risk of serious roadway injuries.
