Why Motorcycle and Semitruck Collisions Are Often Severe
Crashes involving motorcycles and semitrucks frequently result in serious consequences because of the significant size and weight differences between the vehicles. Motorcyclists have far less physical protection than occupants of passenger vehicles, making them more vulnerable during contact with larger trucks.
Visibility can be a challenge for both truck drivers and motorcyclists. Large commercial vehicles have substantial blind spots around the front, sides, and rear, while motorcycles can be more difficult to detect due to their smaller profile. Intersections, merging areas, and highway interchanges are common places where these interactions occur.
Investigators reviewing motorcycle-truck crashes often examine roadway conditions, vehicle movements, traffic patterns, and sight lines. They may also analyze physical evidence from the roadway and vehicles to determine how the collision occurred. Understanding these factors helps create a clearer picture of the circumstances leading up to the crash.
