Osage County, OK (June 10, 2026) – According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, a Ponca City man was killed in a motorcycle crash on Tuesday, June 9, on US-60 east of a County Road intersection in Osage County.
Officials stated that a 44-year-old Jeremy Bearden was traveling along US-60 when a box fell from the back of his motorcycle. Investigators said Bearden pulled onto the shoulder after losing the box, then attempted to turn around.
Troopers reported that the motorcycle was struck by another vehicle during the maneuver. Bearden suffered fatal injuries in the collision and was pronounced dead. Authorities said a passenger riding on the motorcycle was also injured in the crash. The extent of the passenger’s injuries has not been released.
Investigators noted that the driver of the other vehicle involved went into a ditch following the collision but was not injured. Traffic in the area may have been affected while emergency crews responded to the scene and conducted the investigation. Our thoughts are with the family of Bearden.
What Investigators Review in Motorcycle Turnaround Crashes
Motorcycle crashes involving roadway turnarounds are often reviewed closely because these maneuvers can place riders in the path of oncoming traffic. Investigators typically examine visibility, traffic speed, and the time other drivers have to react.
Road shoulders and highway edges can also create challenges for motorcyclists attempting to safely re-enter traffic. Investigators may analyze skid marks, vehicle positions, and impact damage to determine how the collision occurred.
Motorcycles are smaller and less visible than passenger vehicles, especially during sudden directional changes. Even low-speed turning movements on highways can become dangerous when traffic nearby is moving at higher speeds.
