Marengo, OH (September 9, 2026) – A 60-year-old motorcyclist died in a multi-vehicle crash on State Route 229 near Seymour Street at about 7:30 p.m. on Monday, September 7.
Randy Sheets of Centerburg was riding east on a Harley-Davidson Electra Glide when a GMC failed to yield while turning left onto Seymour Street. The motorcycle struck the GMC, then crossed the center line and was hit by a Ford.
Sheets was pronounced dead at the scene. The drivers of the GMC and Ford, along with a passenger in the Ford, were uninjured. The crash remains under investigation.

How Can a Second Impact Increase the Risk of Severe Motorcycle Injuries?
A motorcyclist may continue moving after the first point of contact, especially when the initial force changes the motorcycle’s direction. Crossing into another traffic lane can expose the rider to a second vehicle before there is time to recover or avoid further contact.
A second impact can add substantial force to injuries already caused by the first accident. Riders have little surrounding structure, so direct contact with another vehicle or the pavement can affect the head, chest, arms, and legs.
Travel speed, the angle of each contact, protective equipment, and the rider’s path after separation from the motorcycle all influence injury severity. Helmets are designed to reduce head trauma, while protective clothing can lessen some abrasions and other injuries during a fall or slide.
