Pittsburgh, PA (May 31, 2026) – A dirt bike rider lost their life following a wreck involving a Pittsburgh Regional Transit bus on Saturday, May 30, in the Homewood neighborhood of Pittsburgh.
According to investigators, the fatal crash took place shortly before 6 p.m. at the intersection of Brushton Avenue and Frankstown Avenue. The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the deceased as 33-year-old Deshawn Davis.
Witnesses nearby described seeing the dirt bike strike the bus as it was crossing through the intersection. Tracy Hall and her 12-year-old son, Chandler Thomas, said they were inside a food truck close to the roadway when the collision occurred. Thomas told reporters that the rider continued forward and hit the bus while it was already moving through the crossing.
People nearby said the sight was deeply upsetting. Hall recalled noticing a man lying on the ground after someone alerted her to what had happened outside.
Emergency units remained at the intersection for more than two hours while investigators examined evidence and worked to determine the sequence of factors that led to the accident. The people reviewing the case have not yet released additional findings, but they are continuing to gather information regarding the circumstances surrounding the fatality.
Our heartfelt sympathies go out to Deshawn Davis’s family and friends during this difficult time.
What Factors Are Commonly Examined After a Bus and Motorcycle Crash?
When a motorcycle or dirt bike is involved in a collision with a bus, investigators usually review several pieces of information to better understand how the roadway encounter unfolded. This can include the travel direction of each vehicle, traffic signal status, visibility at the intersection, and the timing of movements made by both operators.
Physical evidence such as vehicle damage, tire marks, debris patterns, and surveillance footage may also provide useful insight. Witness statements frequently help establish a timeline, especially when multiple people observed the moments leading up to the crash.
Road design can also be reviewed, including lane layout, signage, and any factors that could affect sight distance. In cases involving larger transit vehicles, investigators may examine onboard systems and operational records. These details can help create a clearer picture of what occurred and assist in developing a complete understanding of the collision.
