Warwick, RI (June 10, 2026) – A 66-year-old motorcyclist was seriously injured following a traffic collision on Jefferson Blvd in Warwick on Tuesday, June 9.

According to officials, the motorcycle and an SUV came together when the sport utility vehicle entered Jefferson Boulevard from a parking lot. Investigators believe the SUV, driven by a 31-year-old woman, crossed into the path of the motorcycle while attempting to turn onto the roadway.

Emergency units arrived and took the rider to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment of serious injuries; they said the person on the motorcycle was not wearing a helmet at the time. The woman driving the SUV remained at the scene and cooperated fully with investigators. Speed and impairment are not believed to have contributed to the collision. The exact cause has not yet been determined. The police continue to examine the circumstances surrounding what led to the roadway crash.

We are keeping the injured rider in our thoughts and wishing him a full recovery.

Why Turning-Vehicle Motorcycle Crashes Can Be Severe

Motorcycles are smaller and less visible than larger vehicles, which can make turning-related roadway crashes especially dangerous. These types of collisions commonly occur when a driver enters or crosses traffic and does not see an approaching motorcycle in time.

Several factors may be reviewed after a serious motorcycle crash, including driver visibility, traffic flow, roadway design, vehicle positions, and witness accounts. Investigators may also examine whether weather, lighting, or sight-distance issues affected a driver’s ability to detect an approaching rider.

Protective equipment can influence the severity of injuries in motorcycle-related collisions. Helmets and other safety gear are designed to reduce the risk of certain injuries, though they cannot prevent all harm. As additional information becomes available, investigators usually use physical evidence and statements from those involved to build a clearer picture of how the roadway collision occurred.
