How Left-Turn Motorcycle Crashes Happen at Intersections
Motorcycle crashes involving turning vehicles are common at busy intersections where drivers must judge the speed and distance of oncoming traffic. Riders can be harder to see than larger vehicles, especially during quick turns or congested daytime travel periods.
Left-turn collisions may happen when a driver believes there is enough time to cross an intersection but misjudges the motorcycle’s approach. In some cases, roadway design, signal timing, and visibility conditions may also affect reaction time for everyone involved. Because motorcycles offer limited physical protection, riders often face more severe injuries during roadway contact.
Investigators who review intersection crashes frequently examine traffic signal patterns, witness statements, and vehicle positioning. Skid marks, curb strikes, and damage patterns can also help explain how a motorcycle lost control after the initial contact.
