Moultrie, GA (March 3, 2026) – A Colquitt County Sheriff’s deputy was seriously injured on Tuesday, March 3, in a crash involving a semi-truck near a hospital in Moultrie. The collision occurred at the intersection of Georgia 35 and Southside Drive.
According to state patrol officials, a Wal-Mart semi was traveling south on Georgia 35 when the deputy, who was heading east on Southside Drive, entered the intersection. Authorities said the patrol vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign and moved into the path of the semi.
The front of the truck struck the driver’s side of the patrol car. Emergency units transported the deputy to a hospital in serious condition. The semi driver was also treated for injuries.
The crash remains under investigation. Our thoughts remain with those injured as they continue to receive care and recover from their injuries.
What Makes Crashes Involving Semi-Trucks So Severe?
Semi-trucks are much larger and heavier than passenger vehicles. When a collision occurs, the size difference can lead to significant damage, especially in side-impact crashes.
Intersections controlled by stop signs require drivers to yield before entering the roadway. Failing to stop can place a vehicle directly in the path of oncoming traffic.
Because of their weight, semi-trucks need more distance to slow down or stop. When a smaller vehicle crosses into their path, the impact can result in serious injuries to those inside the smaller vehicle.
