NEW CARLISLE, Clark County, Ohio, Oct. 22, 2026 — Three people, including teenagers, were hurt on Wednesday evening, October 21, in a multi-vehicle crash at North Dayton Lakeview Road and Sigler Road in New Carlisle, Ohio. The driver believed to be at fault reportedly fled the scene on foot, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The crash happened around 8 p.m. A preliminary investigation found a westbound vehicle on Sigler Road failed to stop at a posted sign and was struck by a second vehicle, according to Sargent Nick Bishop of the Ohio State Highway Patrol. That second vehicle reportedly crossed the center line and collided with a third vehicle.
Bishop said the driver believed to have caused the crash got out of the vehicle and ran from the scene before troopers arrived. That driver had not been located as of Wednesday.
Three people were taken to a hospital with injuries. A witness told reporters he heard children screaming after the impact and called 911.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol said the search for the driver who fled continues, and the crash remains under investigation. Our thoughts are with those who were injured, and we wish them a full recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why are crashes involving several vehicles harder to piece together than single-car wrecks?
Investigators have to establish the order of impacts, which vehicle struck which, and whether a driver fled or any factor like a missed stop sign started the chain. Multiple damage patterns and witness accounts can take time to sort out.
What typically causes a pile-up involving three or more vehicles?
These crashes often start with one driver failing to yield, running a stop sign, or drifting across the center line, which then forces a second or third vehicle into danger.
Why does one collision sometimes trigger a chain reaction?
Once a vehicle is pushed off its intended path, whether by impact or an evasive swerve, it can end up in the lane of oncoming or adjacent traffic, leaving following drivers little room to react.
