Frequently Asked Questions
What can drivers do to help avoid collisions with e-bike riders?
Checking twice at intersections and driveways, slowing down in areas where cyclists are common, and leaving extra space when passing can help drivers spot e-bikes in time to react.
What injuries are common in e-bike and car collisions?
Riders can suffer broken bones, head injuries, road rash, and internal injuries, since they have little protection compared to someone inside a vehicle.
What usually causes crashes between e-bikes and cars?
Common factors include failing to yield, limited visibility at intersections, turning vehicles not seeing a rider, and riders or drivers misjudging the other's speed.
Does vehicle speed affect how serious these crashes are?
Yes. Higher speeds give drivers less time to stop or swerve and increase the force of impact, which tends to make injuries to a rider more severe.
