New Orleans, LA (January 20, 2026) – A 64-year-old man was hospitalized after being struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run accident on Canal St on January 19. The incident left the bicyclist with serious leg injuries and abrasions and prompted a trauma response at University Medical Center.
According to emergency medical personnel, the victim was hit from behind by a vehicle reportedly traveling at approximately 35 miles per hour. The impact caused the rider to spin off the bicycle multiple times before falling to the ground. His bicycle was noted to have significant damage.
Medics assessed the man at the scene and found him conscious, with a Glasgow Coma Scale score of 15. He was suffering from a visible deformity to his lower left leg near the ankle, as well as an abrasion on his left arm. Blood pressure readings were elevated at 175/104, with a known history of hypertension. Other vital signs remained stable.
The vehicle involved fled the scene, and authorities are actively investigating the incident to identify the driver responsible.
